Day 36: To change or not to change

A few people have asked if I'm going to change my surname after getting married. I have been thinking about it.

But I don't want to become Mrs Hope because then everyone will think I'm white when they only see my name. I don't want to strip myself of my Asian surname and identity.

Anyway, there's another major deterrent. You see, if I adopt R's surname, I will become Mrs C. Hope. Doesn't mean anything to you? How about this? Mrs Chope

Can you imagine all the jokes which I'll be bombarded with then? "Eh Mrs Chope, go and CHOPE that table leh!" or "Eh your name Chope, you must be very good at CHOPING hor?"

So I think I'll settle with Mdm Chen.
